Liverpool, Newcastle battle for Real Madrid's Woodgate

Liverpool and Newcastle are being linked with Real Madrid defender Jonathan Woodgate.

The Daily Star says Liverpool hope to close a deal for Woodgate in January, though will have to see off Newcastle which has a buy-back option on the England international.
