Liverpool boss Benitez not interested in Real Madrid

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez will resist any approach arriving from Real Madrid in the summer.

The Sun says Anfield bosses are ready to reward his faith by sitting down to discuss a new contract when the season finishes.
 
There was a growing fear among fans he would find the temptation of returning home, and to the club where he began his managerial career, too great to turn down.

Real will axe Vanderlei Luxemburgo this summer and Benitez is top of their wanted list.

But their former youth coach has reassured Koppites he will not walk out on his contract.

That still has four years to run, with his £1.6million salary making him the eighth-best paid manager in Europe. Now Anfield chief executive Rick Parry will talk about extending that after the Euro successes.

But Benitez said: "I am not thinking about that - I don't want to put the club under pressure, but if he did that, things could be even better."

"But I am quite happy now. Jose Mourinho has got a contract for five more years and good luck to him."

"I have no problem whether it is five years, 10 years or whatever."

"Someone said to me about a long contract but I want to win trophies this season and the next - and with Liverpool, so the fans can be assured."
