Liverpool bid for Real Madrid trio

Liverpool have launched a £6.5 million offer for Real Madrid pair Fernando Morientes and Caesar.

Striker Morientes has been a long-term target for Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez, while Caesar has emerged as a possible replacement for crocked goalkeeper Chris Kirkland.

Liverpool's offer is for Morientes and one of Caesar or youngster Diego Lopez. But Real are refusing to do business over Lopez.

Caesar is off contract at the end of the season and has already been told by Real he is free to negotiate with interested clubs.

Benitez is demanding an answer from Real in the coming days and will turn to Manchester City's former Real star Nicolas Anelka if he continues to be frustrated in his bid for Morientes.
