Liga Team Of The Season

4-3-3 Formation.

GK: Iker Casillas (Real Madrid): the Spanish number one put in some huge displays this season. Without him, Real would have leaked even more gaols.

LB: Roberto Carlos (Real Madrid): despite Real's porous defence, the Brazilian has had another solid season at left-back.

CB: Jorge Andrade (Deportivo): the young Portuguese centre-back has made a real name for himself. Strong in the air, solid in the tackle, and also fleet of foot. Will he still be at the Riazor next season?

CB: Roberto Ayala (Valencia): close to a move to Real Madrid last summer, the Valencia fans will be relieved that the two clubs couldn't agree a fee.

RB: Michel Salgado (Real Madrid): strange that a team with such a shaky defence get three players in the team of the season, but Salgado has arguably been Real's best outfield performer of the campaign.

LM: Vicente (Valencia): the young winger has discovered a penchant for scoring goals, and has netted 13 this season. His all-round play has also been of the highest order. Look out for him this summer.

CM: Edgar Davids (Barcelona): the Dutchman was one of the major catalysts in Barca's rejuvenation. His dogged defensive work allowed the likes of Xavi to get forward and support the attack.

RM: Luis Garcia (Barcelona): the former Atletico Madrid man was one of the surprise packages of the season. He may not be the bravest of players in La Liga, but his goals and solid wing play were another factor in Barca's resurgence.

F: Ronaldinho (Barcelona): arguably the player of the season in La Liga. The Brazilian knows every trick in the book, and some that aren't. He's emerged as one of the leaders of the squad, and don't believe the rumours that he'll be leaving this summer. He's staying right where he is.

F: Mista (Valencia): many doubted Mista's ability to perform at the highest level after only playing a bit-part role in the side last season. He has proved the critics wrong, and finally Valencia have a 20-goal a season striker.

F: Ronaldo (Real Madrid): the stats show that Real struggle when the Brazilian doesn't play or score.
