Liga Sunday Wrap: El Real Yes, La Real No

Ronaldo was the hero as Real Madrid clinched their 29th League Championship in their centenary year after beating Athletic Bilbao 3-1 in the Bernabeu. The Brazilian sported the same haircut as he wore during last year's World Cup Final and it produced the same result as he scored two crucial goals to end the brave fight of their Basque Country visitors. Bitor Alkiza slammed home a superb equaliser after Ronaldo had opened the scoring, but a strike from Roberto Carlos and Ronaldo's second was enough to give Los Galacticos the title.

Real Sociedad's superb season ended with a convincing 3-0 win over an Atletico Madrid side, who clearly had their minds on their summer holidays. Goals from Darko Kovacevic, Javier De Pedro and Nihat gave them victory on the night, but last weekend's defeat at Celta proved crucial as it allowed Real Madrid to take control of the destiny of the title.

Barcelona's torrid season ended on a high note as they snatched sixth place and a place in the Uefa Cup next season. After being only two points above the drop zone earlier in the campaign, Raddy Antic completed a remarkable turnaround with a 2-0 victory over Celta Vigo in Camp Nou. In between Juan Pablo Sorin's opener and Javier Saviola's goal both sides were reduced to ten men as Angel was sent off for catching Frank De Boer in the face with his hand and then taking a swing at the Dutchman for good measure. Patrick Kluivert was dismissed in the fracas that followed as he looked to exact some revenge on the red-carded Vigo man.

Dani and Joaquin both scored twice as Real Betis ended their season with a tremendous 4-1 win at Villarreal. Guayre gave teh home side the lead after 13 minutes, but the Andalucians took control and secured an InterToto Cup place with the victory.
