Liga Sunday Wrap: Betis Keep Pace With Leaders

Real Betis maintained their bid for a Champions League place after Joaquin scored a dramatic injury time winner in a 1-0 win at Racing Santander. The Spanish international midfielder ventured forward to head home the killer blow in the 92nd minute leaving the home side hovering just above the bottom three.

Oscar's strike after just eight minutes was enough to earn Valladolid a precious 1-0 victory against Rayo Vallecano in the Teresa Rivero Stadium. The Castillan visitors leapt into ninth place with the win and heaped the pressure on Rayo boss Fernando Vazquez as his side remained stuck in the relegation zone.

Osasuna stayed just above the bottom trio as they scored in the 88th minute to win a point from a 1-1 draw at Alaves. Adrian Ilie had given the home side a 40th minute lead and that looked to be enough to see them move into mid-table. But John Aloisi's late header stunned the Mendizorroza.

Bottom side Recreativo secured a valuable point in a 1-1 draw against Mallorca in Son Moix. But they could have won the game after Raul Molina had given them the lead ten minutes into the second half. But Walter Pandiani dashed their hopes with a penalty nine minutes from the end.

Espanyol's visit to Villarreal and Sevilla's match with Malaga both ended goalless.

Demetrio Albertini's stunning injury time free kick gave Atletico Madrid a deserved share of the points in a 2-2 draw with Real Madrid. Javi Moreno gave the visitors to the Bernabeu an 11th minute lead from the penalty spot before Real were reduced to ten men when Ivan Helguera was sent off. Luis Figo then equalised just after half an hour and went onto put Vicente Del Bosque's side into the lead when he slotted home a penalty just before half time. But there was a twist in the tail as Albertini fired home a 95th leveller. (See full report)

Deportivo La Coruna maintained their title challenge as they came from behind to beat Athletic Bilbao 2-1 in the Riazor. Santiago Ezquerro put the Basque Country visitors into the lead four minutes after half time, but Donato levelled in spectacular fashion two minutes later. Then with only five minutes left on the clock Hector made his way forward to net the winner for Jabo Irureta's side.
