Liga Report: Ronaldo Sees Real Past Celta

Real Madrid piled the pressure on league leaders Real Sociedad with a precious 1-0 victory over Celta Vigo in the the Balaidos.

Ronaldo continued to pay back some of the £29million fee that he cost Madrid in the summer with the winning goal after just six minutes.

Raul's shot from the edge of the penalty area was palmed away by Pablo Cavallero only for Ronaldo to slide it into the back of the net from close range.

The early strike from the visitors, gave the home side a lift and they took control of proceedings pressing Madrid's makeshift defence throughout the first half.

Despite having the majority of possession though, Vigo found it difficult to convert it into clear cut chances and almost fell victim to Real Madrid's counter-attacking tactic on more than one occasion.

Ronaldo was set free by Raul, but the Brazilian's run to the edge of the area ended disappointingly as he sent his shot well wide of the Vigo goal.

Raul thought that he had double his side's lead when he put the ball in the back of the net, but the linesman had already indicated the Spanish international was offside.

Celta though continued their pursuit of an equaliser and Edu was guilty on two occasions of spurning golden opportunities to open the Galicians' account.

His first header sailed just over the bar and his second was punched clear by Iker Casillas in the Madrid goal.

After the interval Raul fired wide and Edu made it a hat-trick of missed chances when he forced Casillas into a good save with a header from close range.
