Liga Report: Ronaldo Double Fires Real

Real Madrid moved to the top of La Liga thanks to a 3-0 win over Athletic Bilbao at the Bernebeu.

Ronaldo was on target twice to end his run of three games without a goal, and Luis Figo added the third.

3-0 was by no means a fair reflection of the match, however, with Iker Casillas carrying on his tremendous season by making a number of fine saves.

After Luis Prieto had warmed the hands of the Real keeper, he pulled off a super close range save from Joseb Etxeberria's header.

After Casillas had saved from Santi Ezquerro, he stopped another Etxeberria effort with his feet.

But it was Real who drew first blood when Ronaldo volleyed in a David Beckham cross. The Athletic players claimed a foul on Dani Aranzubia, but nothing was given.

Casillas was again called into action to stop a Tiko free-kick, before Etxeberria shot wide after some clever work

Etxeberria brought the best out of Casillas once again after the break, but it was 2-0 on 55 minutes when Ronaldo beat two defenders and shot home with his left foot.

Tiko and Urzaiz were both denied, before the game was put beyond the unlucky visitors on 69 minutes when Ronaldo, instead of going for his hat-trick, passed to Figo who fired home.

Another Casillas master-class prevented Urzaiz from scoring a consolation late on, but it wasn't to be the Athletic's day.
