Lanzarote ready for 'historic' Copa clash

Lanzarote chairman Estanislao García says he is looking forward to tonights historic Copa del Rey second round clash against Real Madrid.

Not only will the tie serve as the most historic game in the islanders' history, García is rubbing his hands at the thought of the extra income from ticket sales for the much-awaited contest.

Lanzarote stand to rake in a tidy windfall from their cup meeting with La Primera champions Real - the Segunda B minnows have pushed up prices especially for the game with the most expensive tickets going for £35.

García, however, says that he is not building his hopes up for any giant-killing heroics.

He said: "It's going to an historic day for us. Clearly this year's competition, eliminating Tenerife and now facing Real Madrid in the second round, is a landmark in our history but nothing more than that. We're just planning to go out and enjoy ourselves."

García explained: "Qualifying for the next stage won't be beneficial for Lanzarote - the games are played over two legs, we'll have to travel and that's expensive for a modest club like us."

"Also, with Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Valencia all knocked out, we're more likely to meet another modest team and the ticket returns won't compensate us."

"Being in the Copa is all well and good, but it won't save us in the league, keeping our heads afloat in La Liga is more of a concern at this stage."

Meanwhile, hat-trick hero from the first round, Maciot Dévora, is doubtful for Wednesday's game after being injured at the weekend, but the player has vowed to be back in time to take on Real.

"I wouldn't miss this game for anything in the world," he said on Tuesday.
