Lanzarote protest at Copa re-draw

Lanzarote have threatened to withdraw from the Copa del Rey and La Liga if the Spanish FA re-stages the Copa del Rey second round draw.

The Spanish Football Federation will decide on Friday whether to re-instate Valencia into the competition. The Che have appealed against last month's disqualification for fielding an illegal number of players in the first round tie at Novelda.

If the Federation decide that Valencia should return to the tournament, then the draw, which originally took place on November 12, will have to take place again. And Canary Islanders Lanzarote are not happy at all by the prospect.

The Canarios were originally drawn against Real Madrid on November 28, a fixture they are keen to see go ahead as planned. Club chairman Estanislao García sees the Real Madrid tie as probably the most important match in his club's history - and a guarantee of huge ticket returns from an enthusiastic public. García said on Thursday: "If all the teams still in the Copa have to go into the hat again, then that will be a serious financial blow to us, it'll cost us millions. But I'm sure that the decision to disqualify Valencia will stand".
