La Volpe backs Gago for Real Madrid success

Former Boca Juniors coach Ricardo La Volpe is backing Fernando Gago to be a big success at Real Madrid.
 
Now with Velez Sarsfield, La Volpe said: "He is moving to another stage. In his favor is his youth, his quality, his temperament. I had the luck of having coached him, to enjoy a player who is more than a fetcher and carrier, because in addition he creates - like Fernando Redondo."

"Gago is like Redondo, but with greater power. He has his quality, his elegance. You see it in his play. He is stylish as much as when he attacks as when he defends. He is going to contribute much to Madrid in midfield."

Asked about Real's other new Argentine signing, former River Plate striker Gonzalo Higuain, La Volpe also told AS: "Higuain will need support. It's a different responsibility compared to Gago. The strikers rely on the midfield to get them the ball."

"He has Ruud van Nistelrooy and Ronaldo in front of him - it won't be easy to move ahead of them. The advantage he has is his age. He has great pace, timing and an eye for goal. But I repeat, his success will depend on those players behind him."
