La Liga to report Barcelona over potential assault on Eduardo Camavinga during El Clasico
LaLiga will file a complaint with the Disciplinary Committee after Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga was struck by a flagpole during the celebrations following his team’s second goal against Barcelona at the Spotify Camp Nou.
LaLiga will file a complaint with the Disciplinary Committee after Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga was struck by a flagpole during the celebrations following his team’s second goal against Barcelona at the Spotify Camp Nou.
According to MARCA, the league is taking action after footage of the incident circulated widely on social media following Sunday’s El Clasico.
The incident occurred after Kylian Mbappe’s goal as Real Madrid celebrated their 2-1 victory over Barcelona.
While the match was largely peaceful, the scenes near the touchline raised concerns about spectator behaviour and player safety.
According to the report, several Barcelona supporters attempted to strike Camavinga with flagpoles as the Real Madrid midfielder approached the end of the pitch during the celebrations.
Some of the objects made contact with the player, who raised his arms to protect his face.
Real Madrid teammates quickly intervened, helping Camavinga move away from the supporters and urging those involved to stop.
The footage subsequently spread across social media, bringing the incident to wider attention.
LaLiga is now expected to refer the matter to the Disciplinary Committee, which will assess the available evidence and determine whether sanctions are warranted.
Any punishment will depend on the committee’s review rather than the complaint alone.
Camavinga was not the only Real Madrid player affected by the scenes following the goal.
Bottles were also thrown towards Madrid players as they celebrated the strike that secured the victory, according to the supplied report.
The incidents overshadowed aspects of a Clasico that had otherwise passed without major disturbances.
They also renewed questions about how stadium authorities can protect players during emotionally charged moments, particularly when celebrations bring footballers close to spectators.
At Real Madrid, they will be hoping that the behaviour is properly investigated and the footage could become central to determining what happened next.
Meanwhile, La Liga has reiterated its opposition to violence and intolerance in Spanish football as it prepares to refer the Camavinga incident to the Disciplinary Committee.
“LaLiga remains firmly committed to eradicating any violent or intolerant act from Spanish football,” the league stated.
The committee will now have to assess the incident and decide what consequences, if any, should follow.
