King's Cup thriller in store for Betis and Bilbao

Real Betis and Athletic Bilbao, two of the most attack-minded sides in Spain, have been drawn to face each other in the semi-finals of the King's Cup.

The two teams fought out a thrilling 4-4 draw when they met at San Mames last weekend and have played some of the most entertaining football in the Primera Liga this season.

Osasuna, the only one of the four sides in Friday's draw never to have won the Cup, were paired with Atletico Madrid in another evenly matched tie.

Atletico edged a 3-2 victory over the Navarrans when the two sides met in the league earlier this season, while both teams have impressive records at their home grounds.

The first leg matches are scheduled to take place on April 20, with the return games on May 11. The final will be played on June 11, although a venue has yet to be decided.

Bilbao, who have 23 Cup wins to their name but have not won the competition since 1984, have the advantage of playing the second leg against Betis in front of their home fans.

The Basque side staged a dramatic comeback when the two sides met last week to lead Betis 4-3 after trailing 3-0 in the 25th minute, but the Andalucians hit back 11 minutes from time to earn themselves a 4-4 draw.

Of the three sides who have won the Cup before, Atletico were the most recent victors, claiming the trophy for the ninth time when they beat Barcelona to win the 1996 final, completing their first league and Cup double.

Opponents Osasuna reached the semis two seasons ago. The Navarrans have the disadvantage of playing the second leg at the Calderon where Atletico have only lost once this season.
