Karanka returns

Central defender Aitor Karanka returned to the training ground today for the first time since ripping a hamstring muscle a month ago.

In his absence, Karanka's central defence position has been covered by youth team player, Francisco Pavón. But the Basque-born defender may reclaim his place in the side for Saturday's league clash against Sevilla.

Real medical chief Juan Carlos Hernández told Europa Press yesterday evening: "From a medical point of view, the idea is to give Karanka the all-clear tomorrow, however, he has spent the last four weeks out injured and his inclusion on Saturday will depend on how he fares over the next three days."

He added: "The club physio and Del Bosque will have the final say as to whether Karanka can play."
