Karanka contract talks stalled

Aitor Karanka could be on his way to either Deportivo de la Coruna or Manchester United this summer if he fails to agree a new deal at Real.

Karanka, who will be free to walk away from the Bernabeu in June, has been negotiating a new contract with Real but the player has failed to agree with the terms offered by The Merengues.

It is believed that Karanka is asking for a three-year-deal worth approximately $US10.5million, tax-free.

But Real insist they cannot meet this demand and have instead offered a lower salary plus various performance-related bonuses.

Karanka's agent Miguel Santos has been in La Coruna discussing a possible winter swoop.

The 28-year-old stopper is rumoured to have at least two offers on the table according to reports on Spanish radio station La SER.

Galician outfit Deportivo are believed to be interested in the central defender but they may have to fight off a bid from Sir Alex Ferguson if they are to land the player's signature.

Meanwhile, the player's former club Athletic Bilbao - where his brother David currently plays - have maintained that the door will be always open for a possible return.
