With Pep Guardiola's men trailing their great rivals by three points in the table, one of their former favourites feels it is imperative that they win at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Jose Mari Bakero believes that victory in this weekend’s eagerly-awaited Liga clash between Real Madrid and Barcelona is of greater importance to the Catalans.
The reigning Spanish champions go into the game at the Santiago Bernabeu trailing their rivals by three points in the standings, having played one game more.
As a result, former Barca midfielder Bakero believes that the pressure is on his old club to prevail.
"For Barcelona, it’s a bigger Clasico," the Lech Poznan coach told COPE. "If they are not able to win, and especially play good football, it will be another blow."
However, Bakero, a key component of Johan Cruyff’s legendary ‘Dream Team’ would like to see Madrid adopt a more attacking approach than they have done in recent clashes with Barca.
"Madrid must step forward [because] the way they held the line last year disappointed me a bit," he said.
After arriving at Camp Nou from Real Sociedad in 1988, Bakero made 260 appearances for Barca during his nine years with the club.
