Inter seek to rumble Barcelona hopes for Mendieta deal

Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti is set to raid Spain's La Liga in order to boost his midfield in January.

Tuttosport said yesterday that Moratti was ready to open talks with Lazio over Barcelona's on-loan midfielder Gaizka Mendieta.

Only last week, Mendieta insisted he would not be returning to Italy when his loan deal runs out at the end of the season.

Also in Inter's sights is Real Madrid's Claude Makelele. Talks over a new contract for the Frenchman collapsed last Wednesday with little sign of a deal being struck in the future.
