With Ronaldo determined to leave Inter, Real re-opened talks with the Italian club in Monaco, where officials from the clubs attended a meeting of the G14 of leading European clubs.
The Italian news agency ANSA reported that Real had offered 37 million euros, plus forward Pedro Munitis, in exchange for the Brazilian.
Inter said in a statement on their official website that during the meeting "neither the technical or economic conditions emerged to allow the conclusion of the Ronaldo deal".
A source close to Inter told Reuters that the Italians want Real's Argentine midfielder Santiagio Solari in part-exchange rather than Spanish forward Munitis.
Should no deal be reached on Saturday, Ronaldo would be stranded at Inter until at least January when the Europe-wide 'transfer window' opens.
The Brazilian would face a difficult task in winning over Inter's fans, many of whom feel betrayed after sticking with him through three injury-plagued seasons.
Ronaldo would also have to heal his damaged relationship with Inter's coach Hector Cuper, which is reported to be the main reason why the striker is determined to move.
After last week's earlier bid from Real was rejected, Inter president Massimo Moratti had said that talks were closed and Ronaldo would be staying with the Serie A side.
But at a meeting between the two this week the Brazilian striker insisted that he wanted to leave, encouraging Real to re-open talks.
As well as Solari, Spanish international striker Fernando Morientes has also been considered as a possible part-exchange option.
Moratti has denied media reports that one of Ronaldo's sponsors had intervened to try and help close the deal.
Since finishing as top scorer in the World Cup with eight goals, Ronaldo has demanded that he leave Inter for Real.
The Brazilian joined Inter from Real's rivals Barcelona in 1997 but his career had been hampered by knee injuries since the 1998 World Cup finals.
