Inter not good enough for Contra

Alaves defender Cosmin Contra has snubbed Italian giants Internazionale after hearing reports of their interest. "Inter have a lot of money but nothing else," he said, reiterating his desire to stay in Spain, but with one of the country's bigger clubs.

Contra, who recently spoke of his ambition to play for Real Madrid and has also attracted the attention of Champions' League finalists Valencia, increased his value with an outstanding performance in the Uefa Cup final against Liverpool this week.

And it was reported that Spanish agent Tente Sanchez - a close friend of Contra's representative Giovani Becali - had flown to Milan at the weekend to discuss his situation with Inter president Massimo Moratti.

But, in an interview with Spanish newspaper Marca, the 25-year-old, sent-off in Saturday's league game against Barcelona, ruled out a move to Inter.

The former Dinamo Bucharest star said: "It is the first I have heard of Inter's interest and that they are fighting to sign me.

"I know they are a big club who are always signing good players - but their results don't improve at all."

"Inter has a lot of money but nothing else."

"What I want is to playing for a big Spanish team and this is the time to move."

Contra, who has also been linked with English clubs Tottenham Hotspur and Leeds United, has a buy-out clause of £7 million and it is believed Becali has already had talks with Real Madrid officials.
