Iker Casillas And Sergio Ramos Receive FifPro Awards

Spain stars Iker Casillas and Sergio Ramos have received FifPro awards, accrediting both for their selection in the 2007-08 team of the year.

Sergio Ramos and Iker Casillas might not in the best of form at the moment but the fact they received FifPro awards today is a reminder to anyone who doubts the quality of the Spaniards.

Casillas and Ramos, team-mates for both Real Madrid and Spain, have been part of sides that won La Liga and also the European Championships this year.

They were chosen in the team of the year by more than 45,000 fellow professionals and speaking at the presentation today, president of FifPro, Gerardo González Movilla praised the pair.

"Both footballers deserve to be awarded and recognised," he declared.

"It has been their fellow players who have voted them as best goalkeeper and defender of the past year. It is good to know that Spanish footballers are also valued outside of the country, on a worldwide basis."

Speaking after the presentation, Casillas said that to receive the award gives him 'tremendous pride' and a 'recognition', whilst Ramos said, "I am very proud and happy."

"I thank FifPro for this type of reward because it shows that companions value your work. It gives me a vote of confidence from fellow professionals."
