Higuaín Expected Difficult Cup Encounter

Gonzalo Higuaín was relieved that Real Madrid avoided an upset in the Copa del Rey against Alicante and was pleased to have played in his favourite position.

Los Merengues snatched an injury time winner against the third tier outfit in the Bernabéu on Wednesday evening after being held to a draw in the first leg and being pegged back in the second.

While Higuaín admitted the game was tough, he explained that it was to be expected that lower league teams would raise their game for the big occasion.

"To be honest, these are difficult games to win," he said. "It is the chance of a lifetime for a Segunda B side to play at the Bernabéu and they use everything they have."

"The important thing is that we made it through. We now have to think about Zaragoza. There'll be time to think about the next round later."

"It was important for us to win in order to show that the holidays haven't affected us. We played a good game and we knew how to finish it off, even if it was in the final minutes."

Higuaín was played up front by Bernd Schuster and the Argentinian was pleased to have been given a chance to show what he can do in his preferred role.

"I personally felt very comfortable and happy because I played in my favouriote position, as second striker," he continued. "The coach had confidence in me throughout the encounter and allowed me to play as I wanted."
