Former Real Madrid skipper Fernando Hierro is set to join a growing drift of veterans to the Gulf state of Qatar, amid media reports he would sign a two-year deal with an unnamed club by the weekend.
Former Real Madrid skipper Fernando Hierro is set to join a growing drift of veterans to the Gulf state of Qatar, amid media reports he would sign a two-year deal with an unnamed club by the weekend.
The 35-year-old Hierro, who won 89 Spanish caps and who is also a reported target for AS Roma, brought the curtain down on 14 years with Real last season.
He won the Champions League three times with the Spanish champions as well as two Intercontinental Cups.
Several stars in the twilight of their careers have headed for Qatar recently with veteran Argentinian striker Gabriel Batistuta having last week signed a two-year deal to play for Al-Arabi, who have also taken on former Germany international Stefan Effenberg.
Former French international Frank Leboeuf has also headed out to the Gulf state to turn out for Al-Saad.
