Heskey double as Liverpool rout Spartak

Liverpool kick-started their Champions League campaign with a 5-0 demolition of Russian champions Spartak Moscow.

Emile Heskey gave the English side the perfect start with the opening goal on seven minutes and French midfielder Bruno Cheyrou made it two with his first goal for the club soon after.

Sami Hyypia headed the third with only 28 minutes gone and further second half strikes from substitute Salif Diao and Heskey completed the rout.

The win puts Liverpool joint second in group B, level on four points with Swiss side Basel, who were thrashed 6-2 by Valencia on Wednesday.
