Hernandez: Real Madrid's Roberto Carlos lead me to Dundee

Dundee fullback Jonay Hernandez says the club has Roberto Carlos to thank for getting him to Dens Park.

Hernandez spent part of his career as understudy to the Brazilian at Real Madrid and said, "When I was a young player at Real Madrid I hoped to make it through to the first team but there was already a player ahead of me in the queue who played in my position."

"That player was none other than Roberto Carlos - so you could say he is the reason why I am now at Dundee!"

"I moved on to a few Spanish lower league clubs but the financial problems meant we would often go for months without being paid."

"Apart from the fact that I had bills to pay, I also wanted to be more ambitious so I let it be known that I was looking to move to the UK where I could learn English and at the same time put myself back in the shop window."
