Helguera wants new Real Madrid deal

Real Madrid defender Ivan Helguera insists he wants to stay with the Spanish giants.

Helguera, highly admired in England, has less than two years left on his current contract and its policy for Real to open negotiations with required players when they're coming towards the final 18 months of their deal.

"The feeling I have is that they want me to stay," Helguera told AS. "And my feeling is that I want to stay."

"I know I must continue playing well to convince them. I had hoped they would have offered me a new deal by now."

"I always have said that I would like stay with Real Madrid for a very long time. The more years the better, but now only I think about this season, winning titles with Real Madrid."

"I am happy, but this is football and you never know. I would be delighted to sign for Madrid."
