Helguera wants Capello stay: Real Madrid need stability

Ivan Helguera has urged Real Madrid to stick with coach Fabio Capello - even if they fail to win the championship this season.

Helguera hasn't always seen eye-to-eye with Capello, but insists it's crucial for the future success of the club that they undergo a period of stability.

The Spain international defender explained: "Look, Madrid is a different club. Consider Manchester United, for four years without winning anything and they refused to change the trainer. And now they have won the League and they have reached the semifinals of the Champions League. Something similar happened at Liverpool and Arsenal. But here in Spain, no."

"Capello comes and everything is a disaster. Projects need time."

"The future is not only about signing young people. The important thing is to combine the two things. To combine Van Nistelrooys and Robinhos."

Helguera added: "Before we sign Kaka, we should build a good team, a strong foundation. Then he can come to a better environment."

Asked about his future at Real, with Christoph Metzelder joining from Borussia Dortmund in the summer, Helguera concluded: "I'm not bothered. Plenty have come and gone. And I have continued playing here."
