Helguera facing uncertain future

Ivan Helguera's future at the Bernabeu remains in doubt as Real pursue their interest in Zinedine Zidane and Gaizka Mendieta.

The arrival of the two star players would certainly leave Helguera out in the cold which would seem hugely unfair considering the excellent season he has had with the Merengues.

The 26-year-old Cantabrian may even take up one of the many offers he has received from abroad.

Earlier on in the season, Manchester United, Barcelona and Juventus asked about Helguera's availability only to be told that he was not for sale.

But times have changed and the player is angry that Real Madrid seem prepared to let him fester on the bench next term.

Another sore point is Helguera's modest wage packet compared to the likes of Roberto Carlos, Steve McManaman, Raul and Luis Figo.
Helguera feels that he is within his rights to ask for a improved terms but there is no doubt that the arrival of either Zidane or Mendieta would see Helguera pushed out of the side.

And that would probably be the final straw for the former Roma and Espanyol star.
