Guti with his treble and Savio are responsible for qualification

They did not fail. Real Madrid's superiority was clear in their debut in this season Spanish Cup.

This win secured the Whites' passage to the following round. Guti with his treble of goals and Savio were responsible for this KO for Pajara Playas de Jandía, a humble Second Division B team that only gave some trouble to Real in the first 15 minutes. That was the time the white squad took to adapt to the surface of the field: artificial grass. The Whites were not affected by the absences (as many as twelve players) and their kick-off in this competition was as expected given the difference of level between the opponents.
Real got two frights (Cesar had two great saves preventing two possible goals by Pajaras from Nando and Pancho's shots in minute 14th and 16th, respectively), but when the Whites did hit hard, they skinned their rival. Guti's quality scared away the memories from Toledo (this second division team knocked Real out of the competition last year). The midfielder got a ball in the front of the area and his left shot after his turning around was unbeatable.

From that moment Real Madrid took absolute control of the ball. The Whites played it around and got rid of the opposing initial pressure on them, which put their cheerful opponent down. Del Bosque used an unprecedented defence: Miñambres on the right; Pavon and Borja Fernandez as central and Raul Bravo on the left, all four players from Real Madrid B did their job perfectly well all calmly.

Injuries forced this revolution. Eight players were left in Madrid due to a number of upsets: Salgado, Figo, Makelele, Roberto Carlos, Helguera, Flavio, Karanka, Geremi and Ivan Campo. Three other players were ruled out due to a coach's decision: he gave Raul and Hierro a rest and Baljic did not return in time from the game with his national team.

With Celades in charge of the new defence, Zidane and Guti took care of the attack. To avoid nasty surprises and the feeling of overwhelm, right after the break, a group move led to a Guti's header into the goal. It was 0-2 and a determinant moment. The match became a one-side issue as Del Bosque's boys put all their effort and pressure on Pajaras and didn't let them play the ball.

As the game was sorted out the coach replaced Zidane and sent Rivera on who played his first minutes this season, he also sent Solari and Munitis on. The Whites just had to play the ball around filling in time and stopping the Canary team from having any chance. Guti scored the third one of the evening (64') and his third one too, and four minutes later, Savio got the fourth one. The white show was served.

The Spanish Cup final will be held at Bernabeu and by then Real Madrid will be 100 years. The Whites want to have the best of celebrations and started off in this competition as brilliantly as they could.
