Guti pleads with Real Madrid fans to forgive

Real Madrid midfielder Guti has pleaded with fans to forgive the players after Saturday's home defeat by Barcelona.

"Yes, I do ask the fans to forgive us," said Guti, who wore the captain's armband for the second-half after replacing Raul.

"There are no excuses and we can only focus on what is ahead and try to close this chapter. It was a very bad game for everyone connected to the club."

"When you wear this shirt, you need to put in double the effort than what we did. I am now speaking as a Madridista, not a player. I am very hurt. I include myself in the criticism, the worst thing is the bad image we have presented for the club."
