Guti Not Impressed By Robinho Exit

Guti has admitted that he did not understand Robinho's desire to leave Real Madrid and claimed that everyone at the club was proud to be there.

Los Merengues' summer was dominated by the chase to sign Cristiano Ronaldo and the bid to keep Robinho, but in the end they were unable to accomplish either.

Robinho stated that he was desperate to leave Madrid and that was something that Guti could not understand because he feels that any other club would be a step down.

"I am not going to talk about players that are no longer here. I respect Robinho, but he is no longer part of Real Madrid. I simply wish him all the best," he told reporters.

"I do not understand those who don't want to be part of the best club of the 20th century. He should be fully aware of what he says. We are proud of being here and many of those who've already left us are also proud for having once been part of this team."

Madrid insistance on trying to sign Ronaldo is reported to have hampered their quest to bring in other players to strengthen and Guti thinks that more new arrivals would have helped.

"I naturally think the squad can be improved, but we will be able to do well in the three championships if we don't sustain many injuries," he continued.

"I think the club tried hard to bring people and was successful in the case of Van der Vaart, who is a great player. There's been less success elsewhere. I think the squad is good enough to fight for every title, but I believe there's always room for improvement."

Guti will be competing for a place in the team with Wesley Sneijder and Rafael Van der Vaart and he admits that the competition could actually be good for the team.

"It is difficult. There's three of us for two positions, which will strengthen competition between us and give us more time to rest when needed. It's best for the coach, the team and ourselves," he explained.

Guti played all but the last ten minutes of Madrid's opening game against Deportivo but picked up a knock in training which he is still trying to shake off.

"I have got a niggle on my tibia," he said. "It's slightly inflamed and it's best not to train until it restores itself. I don't know how much longer it will be this way."

"I simply have to wait for the moment. I hope to return soon in order to help the team on Sunday."
