The midfielder has set himself the target of Atletico Madrid at the Vicente Calderon next weekend for his comeback from injury.
The Real Madrid stalwart has almost recovered from the leg fracture he sustained against Racing Santander at match day 3, and with the international fixtures taking place this weekend it will give Guti enough time to recover for the crunch derby match on October 18th.
He said, “I’m much better after the injury. At first I had to rest completely, but I’m almost recovered. Next week I will start to train with the team and I will be ready for the derby. For a Real Madrid player, facing Atletico is one of the most important matches of the season.”
Guti is weary of the threat posed by Atletico, even after they were humbled 6-1 by Barcelona last Saturday. Indeed he thinks the poor result may be used as an incentive to bounce back to form quickly.
“The Atletico players will want to wash the memory of that result out of their minds, but we have an excellent record at the (Vicente) Calderon, so it should be a good match.” He told the press.
Real Madrid did the double in the league over their rivals last season, including a 2-0 win away from home, with Raul and Van Nistelrooy grabbing the goals.
