The 31-year-old suffered the injury in Real's 2-0 win over Racing on Sunday when he had to be carried off the field 44 minutes into the match.
He joins fellow midfielders Fernando Gago and Wesley Sneijder on the sidelines, limiting the options for manager Bernd Schuster in the middle of the pitch.
Gago is expected to be out for a month with a thigh tear while Sneijder is recovering from knee ligament damage and will not see the field for months.
Guti is expected to miss the team's next four matches, which include a Champions League contest against Zenit St. Petersburg as well as La Liga matches with Sporting Gijon, Real Betis and Espanyol.
