The Telegraph says United remain adamant that Ronaldo will not be sold this year and the club's American owners are backing Ferguson's hardline stance, but sources at Old Trafford have also dismissed suggestions that they would consider using a potential £75million transfer fee to help pay off the club's debts.
Despite still owing in excess of £600million following the Glazers' controversial takeover, United's enormous turnover means that the debt can be serviced within their existing financial structure.
