Give Me Time to Settle, Says Beckham

David Beckham has asked for time to settle at Real Madrid following his high-profile move from Manchester United earlier this week.

"When you move to a different club it takes a little time to get used to the players and the club," the England captain said in an interview on Japanese television on Friday.

"I hope people give me that time."

The 28-year-old, who agreed to join Spanish giants Real for 35 million euros ($41 million) on Tuesday, said it would take time to adjust after being at United since his schoolboy days.

"I have never had a transfer. People say you should never leave Manchester United...I was there for 13 years, but moving to Real Madrid is a dream come true," said Beckham, who is on a promotional tour of Asia with his pop-star wife Victoria.

"To say I'm committed to Real Madrid now is just amazing. There will be changes in my life but I'm ready for the challenge and going over there to concentrate on football."

Beckham, given a red-carpet welcome and a standing ovation at the Fuji Television studios, will undergo a medical on July 1 before finalizing his move to the nine-times European champions.

"After that I officially become a Real Madrid player, which is an amazing honor," he said.
