Gareth Bale wants to rejoin Tottenham, but move unlikely

Spanish website Cuatro have claimed that Real Madrid superstar Gareth Bale would welcome a return to Tottenham Hotspur in the coming weeks as he continues to remain on the sidelines under Zinedine Zidane.

Bale, 31, joined Real seven years ago in a word-record move that shook football. During 2019-20, he managed just 20 appearances for Real – with Zidane and the Welshman renowned for having a difficult relationship.

The former Southampton star has come under huge criticism over the course of the season for his attitude – laughing on the bench, asking not to play, holding up a banner that claims he prefers golf to Real, and plenty more incidents.

He still has two years left to run on a contract that Quatro claim is worth £295,000 a week. But the report does state that Real are keen to sell, and that Bale would be open to returning to Jose Mourinho’s side.

Daniel Levy is renowned for having a tight-fisted approach to finances and in the midst of a global health crisis, his grip on the Spurs coffers is only likely to increase. Dreams of a Bale return, then, will remain at just that – dreams.

Indeed, if Bale did return to Spurs – the club’s entire wage structure would have to be addressed. Not only would Spurs make Bale their highest-paid player, but the likes of Harry Kane and Son Heung-min would want increases.

He would still cost a transfer fee, too. So the chances are that Spurs will not be signing Bale, and that the Welshman will remain at Madrid where he is deemed to be happy – until his contract expires in 2022.
