Florentino Perez To Announce Real Madrid Election Decision

The Godfather of the Galacticos is expected to unveil his decision whether or not to run for Los Blancos’ upcoming summer presidential elections.

Florentino Perez’s return to the Santiago Bernabeu boardroom looks all too imminent as the media campaign to have him re-elected grows stronger by the day.

Madrid-based sports daily, AS, believes that the ex-supremo is already quietly working on a project and drafting up numerous plans in case he does decide to run for the presidency.

But as long as a formal date is not set for the elections, Perez will not reveal any of his plans, and he will only officially announce whether or not to submit his candidacy at the end of April.

The 61-year-old is supposedly keen and adamant to resume control of the ‘White House’ but he still has other priorities to resolve, namely to get the blessing of his family and from the construction group that he is currently presiding over, the ACS [Actividades de Construccion y Servicios].

The newspaper speculates that part of Perez’s plan in his second stint at Real Madrid will be to sign both Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaka, unpredictably. But his first objective would be to recruit a high profile coach and Milan’s Carlo Ancelotti currently heads the list, followed by Arsenal’s Arsene Wenger, Liverpool’s Rafa Benitez and Inter’s Jose Mourinho.

The most recent reports from Italy had indicated that Ancelotti would consider occupying the Madrid dug-out if Perez were to be elected, a move that could potentially pave the way to sway Kaka to join his mentor at the Bernabeu.

And it would not be the first time Los Blancos attempted to prise Ancelotti away from the San Siro. According to AS, when Perez resigned in 2006, his temporary replacement, Fernando Martin had allegedly reached an agreement with the Italian to coach Madrid for three seasons. That was until Ramon Calderon was elected as the new chief and he opted for Fabio Capello instead.
