Florentino Perez Denies Real Madrid Presidency Talks

The former Real Madrid supremo has dismissed rumours he has met Juan Villalonga to discuss the elections in 2010.

Fiorentino Perez took over as Real Madrid's president in 2000, and most famously signed the 'Galacticos' such as Luis Figo, Zinedine Zidane, Ronaldo and David Beckham. Reports from the Spanish press suggested that he had arranged a meeting with Juan Villalonga to discuss his attempt to return as the new president, with elections forthcoming in 2010.

Perez has since released a statement denied any such meeting took place, and in a short statement he said, "I am compelled to categorically deny that I held any meetings or had any coffee with Mr. Juan Villalonga in the Eurobuilding or anywhere else on any day."

Villalonga is the former boss of telecommunication firm Telefonica and has previous been the chariman at Valencia. It is clear that he wants to be involved in football again and has repeatedly voiced his interest in the presidency in 2010.

It is thought that Perez may be meeting with Villalonga to voice his support for his campaign.

The current president Ramon Calderon will walk away at that time, and any prospetive men for the role will have to secure some major signings after the dissapointment of losing out on Christiano Ronaldo and David Villa over the summer.
