Figo hits back at 'fat' claims

Luis Figo has slammed critics who have labelled him as overweight as he takes things slowly in training because of a calf strain.

The whistle-stop programme of domestic, international and European games has clearly taken its toll on the Portuguese ace, whose fitness has been questioned this season with some critics going as far as to say that he is overweight.

Figo defended himself on local television channel, Telemadrid on Thursday by saying: "The people who are claiming that I'm fat should go and ask the club doctor what he thinks."

"This is the first time I've heard this, it's not as if these people eat with me every day and know what my normal weight is."

Although it's fair to say that Figo has not excelled in the same way he did during his sensational first season with the Merengues, much of the limelight has been shifted onto new boy, Zinedine Zidane.

"What happened to me last season is now happening to Zidane, the focus is on him now, these kinds of things are quite normal in the world of football," Figo concluded.
