Figo happy to step aside for Beckham

Real Madrid winger Luis Figo said he did not mind switching flanks to make room for new signing David Beckham following Real Madrid's 4-0 victory over the China Dragon select team on Saturday.

The Portuguese international, who played on the left wing with Beckham on the right, scored the first goal and was named man-of-the-match in the friendly, earning the keys to a spanking new Audi A4 car from the Chinese organisers.

"The most important thing for me is what the coach asks me to do," Figo told reporters in English after the post-game ceremony.

"My position doesn't matter if I play on the left, the right or the middle."

Since Beckham joined the club for training last week in China, new coach Carlos Queiroz has played Figo, normally a right winger, on the left.

England captain Beckham can play on the right flank or in central midfield.

Figo collected a neat pass by Ronaldo and touched the ball past goalkeeper Sun Gang three minutes before halftime to give Real the lead.
