Figo: Don't insult me - why would I want to join Man Utd?

Luis Figo has again rubbished speculation that he could join Manchester United in the summer.

The Real Madrid superstar is being linked with a swap involving United's David Beckham.

"Why would I want to give up everything I have here?" says Figo. "It's not as if I go home at night and lose any sleep over the persistent rumours linking me with United."

"To suggest that I would be used in any way to secure a deal for David Beckham is laughable. It insults my intelligence. I know where I stand with Madrid and I know that my future is secure here."

"I play for the biggest club in the world, probably the best football team in the world. Would I be so crazy as to consider a move to England?"

"Manchester United are a big club and some players would be flattered by their interest. But I'm not any player."

Figo was also scathing of Beckham's ability to fit into Real's setup.

"I have no idea where he would play. Perhaps that is why they are talking about other players leaving. But it's speculation, isn't it?"

"Madrid being linked with big players is nothing new. Perhaps that reputation makes the link with Beckham more realistic."

"Personally I don't think they need him, but that is my opinion."
