Figo delighted with Championship

Real Madrid striker Luis Figo clearly enjoyed Real Madrid's championship winning celebrations at the weekend.

Never one to shy away from a good party, the Portuguese ace saluted nearly a million supporters from the top of Madrid's Cibeles fountain during Saturday's post-match festivities.

The entire squad arrived at the Plaza de Cibeles at around midnight on Saturday to greet fans and kick-start the celebrations of Real's 28th league championship win.

The party continued long into the night as the whole city buzzed with the excitement of Real bringing the Liga back to the capital for the first time since 1997.

A hoarse Luis Figo told reporters afterwards: "It's a fantastic sensation. Ever since I arrived at Madrid people have been telling me about the celebrations at Cibeles and I must say that I wasn't disappointed.

It's an incredible feeling to see the fans in the street, enjoying themselves with us. I climbed to the top of the fountain, you feel like a king up there - all the fans at your feet having a great big party".

The Real number 10 added: "One reason why I decided to sign for Real Madrid is that they are winners, and after my first season I'm happy to say that I'm satisfied with what we've achieved. The league championship is the result of the work we have put in all season."

Saturday's 5-0 win against Alaves also saw Figo's team-mate, Raul Gonzalez inch ahead of Alaves' Javi Moreno as the leading goalscorer in la Primera, Raul has netted 23 league goals this season and is bang on track to being proclaimed the Liga's 'Pichichi' at the end of the campaign.
