Figo and Beckham battle for award

Luis Figo is expected to battle it out with David Beckham for FIFA's Player of the Year award in Zurich tonight, pipping team-mate Raúl González.

While Figo is expected to accumulate more votes than Raul, Beckham is expected to pip him to the award. Figo has picked up several personal awards since joining Real Madrid from Barcelona two seasons ago.

Last year he was awarded France Football's Golden Ball trophy as well as landing trophies in his home country, Portugal.

The FIFA award has been won by some of the game's top players, including Rivaldo, Ronaldo, Zinedine Zidane, Romario and George Weah.

Real Madrid duo Raul and Figo will attend tonight's ceremony with club representatives Florentino Perez and Jorge Valdano before flying back to Spain and preparing for Tuesday's Copa del Rey tie against Gimnástic.
