Ferrara gives below par Juventus 2-1 win over Galatasaray

A 73rd minute goal from defender Ciro Ferrara gave last season's beaten finalists Juventus a 2-1 win over Turkey's Galatasaray in Champions League Group D on Wednesday.

Although Alessandro Del Piero put Juventus ahead in the fifth minute, when he was given a surprising amount of space to hook home a right-wing cross from Mauro Camoranesi, Juve struggled after Hakan Sukur brought Galatasaray level with a 19th minute header.

But Del Piero, who had struck the bar with a 66th minute free-kick, set up the winner with 36-year-old defender Ferrara left unattended to poke his cross past Faryd Mondragon.

Colombian keeper Mondragon then did well to keep out a header from Juve substitute Marco Di Vaio in the final minute as Juve ended a low-key game, played in front of just 14,420 spectators, as comfortable winners.
