FA keen to speak with Real Madrid over Eriksson

The FA are keen for Real Madrid to approach them for manager Sven Goran Eriksson.

The Swede is among the favourites to succeed Jose Antonio Camacho after he resigned as Real coach yesterday.

But The Sun says wages would be a huge stumbling block.

Camacho was on £1.2million a year and Eriksson is paid nearly FOUR times that amount.

If Real did make an approach, it would be welcomed with open arms at Soho Square.

The FA considered sacking Eriksson only last month over his affair with an FA secretary but were put off by having to find £14m compensation.

However, a move by Real would not only mean the FA avoiding a pay-off for the Swede but they could demand a compensation figure of their own!

One FA insider said: "It would be amazing if we even got £500,000 for Sven considering not long ago we were worried how much it would cost to pay him off."

Eriksson's agent Athole Still insisted: "We have had no contact with Real Madrid whatsoever, not even through intermediaries."
