Ex-Barcelona star Schuster favourite to replace Van Gaal

Xerez trainer and former Barcelona star Bernd Schuster has emerged as favourite to replace under-fire coach Louis van Gaal.

Some Spanish reports are suggesting the German could be appointed by the end of the week, despite Barca president Joan Gaspart insisting on Sunday night that Van Gaal's job was safe.

Schuster has been with Xerez for over two years and has impressed observers with his work at the Segunda Liga outfit.

Also linked with Van Gaal's job is former AC Milan trainer Alberto Zaccheroni and Yugoslav Radomir Antic.
