Everton closer as Real Madrid axe McManaman

Steve McManaman has been left out of Real Madrid's squad for their trip to Valencia this week.

Real trainer Carlos Queiroz has omitted all the players he won't be considering for selection this season - which also include Alberto Celades, Pedro Munitis, and Julio Caesar.

Queiroz held talks with McManaman on Tuesday, informing the England midfielder that he is unlikely to be called upon this season.

Everton boss Dave Moyes confirmed his interest in McManaman last week.
