Euphoric Real Madrid one point behind Barcelona after 5-1 romp

Euphoric Real Madrid cruised up to within just one point of Spanish leaders Barcelona Saturday, with a 5-1 romp at bottom team Getafe.

Karim Benzema, Isco, Gareth Bale, James Rodriguez and league top scorer Cristiano Ronaldo all scored for the Whites, who went into the game on cloud nine as a result on Tuesday's 3-0 destruction of Wolfsburg in the Champions League.

"We are really enjoying everything at the moment," Real keeper Keylor Navas said.

"Everything is going well for us ... We have a lot of respect for Manchester City (Real's rivals in the Champions semi-finals) because they are a good team. It will be difficult, but we will try to beat them with humility and hard work."

Meanwhile, Real coach Zinedine Zidane said: "The league is also important for us, so we are very pleased with this win."

"The players took the game very seriously, as was their obligation."

Pablo Sarabia scored a late consolation goal for Getafe, whose fortunes have not improved despite having a new coach in Juan Eduardo Esnaider.

"We are really going to give our all in the last five games," Sarabia said.

"We have some players injured and others suspended, but I still think we have a fairly good chance of surviving."

Real are now second behind Barcelona before the Sunday games when Barca host Valencia and third-placed Atletico Madrid, now two points behind Real, welcome lowly Granada.

"The battle for the leaque title is very tight, and I think it will go on right up to the last day," Real director Emilio Butragueno said.

Later Saturday, Las Palmas were to host lowly Sporting, then Eibar would face Basque rivals Real Sociedad and Celta Vigo would take on Real Betis.
