Espanyol move third with win over Zaragoza

Espanyol moved up into the Champions League places on Sunday after beating Real Zaragoza 3-1 in Barcelona to go third in the Primera Liga.

Spain international Raul Tamudo headed Espanyol in front after 33 minutes and Maxi Rodriguez raced clear to score the second just before the break.

Zaragoza's David Villa pulled one back for the visitors in the second half but Tamudo made sure of the points with his second in the final minute.

Valencia climbed up to fifth as Mista and Miguel Angel Angulo scored in their 2-0 win over relegation-threatened Albacete.

Real Betis and Deportivo Coruna both suffered home setbacks in their European ambitions, Betis falling 3-2 to Real Sociedad, while Depor were hammered 4-1 by Racing Santander with Yossi Benayoun scoring a hat-trick.

At the foot of the table, 18th-placed Real Mallorca's 2-1 win at rock-bottom Numancia keeps their narrow survival hopes alive as they close to within seven points of 17th-placed Levante, who lost 1-0 at Getafe.

League leaders Barcelona can restore their six-point lead at the top with victory over Malaga later on Sunday after second-placed Real Madrid narrowed the gap to just three with a 2-1 win over Villarreal on Saturday.

Also later on Sunday high-flying Sevilla visit Athletic Bilbao.
