England boss seeks Becks summit over return of Newcastle's Shearer

England boss Sven Goran Eriksson will meet captain David Beckham in Madrid this week to discuss the possibility of Newcastle United's Alan Shearer being coaxed out of retirement.

The People says Eriksson places huge importance on squad spirit and he wants to gauge if senior players think that will be compromised by the return of Shearer, who was previously the dominant personality in the England camp.

If Beckham agrees, Eriksson will make a serious approach to Shearer to come out of retirement and help England, which is struggling for goals with Liverpool's Michael Owen plagued by injury.
