Elite quartet top seedings

Real Madrid CF, FC Bayern München, FC Barcelona and Juventus FC are provisionally top seeds in Friday's draw for the second group stage of the UEFA Champions League.

While Madrid and Juventus were assured already of top billing after winning their respective first-stage groups, Bayern and Barcelona made sure of joining them in pot one for the draw with victories over AC Sparta Praha and Fenerbahçe SK respectively in the final round of matches of the first group stage.

With the eight group winners divided into two pots of four teams, the top four are selected on the strength of their club coefficient at the start of this season. As title-holders, Bayern are first seeds with a coefficient of 110.316, followed by Madrid (114.605), Barcelona (108.605) and Juventus (98.119).

Pot two is headed by Group B winners Liverpool FC (73.644), followed by RC Deportivo La Coruña (63.605) - who clinched Group G with a 1-1 draw at Olympiakos Piraeus FC - FC Nantes Atlantique (45.176) and Panathinaikos FC (37.183).

With a coefficient of 110.644, 1999 champions Manchester United FC are the highest ranked of the group runners-up and they lead the way in pot three, followed by their English rivals Arsenal FC (76.644), Galatasaray SK (71.987) and FC Porto (68.137). Pot four is headed by Italian champions AS Roma (68.119), followed by Bayer 04 Leverkusen (56.316), AC Sparta Praha (37.395) and Boavista FC (28.137).
